Master's Program
The graduate program in Educational and Community Renewal is an interdisciplinary program that blends the theoretical and practical considerations of school and community renewal. The program of study is specifically designed to prepare professionals to be effective transformational leaders armed with the skills to guide organizations, schools and communities through the renewal process. Educational and community renewal is a process of transformation through redefined structures, organizational cultures, norms, values and vision.

Master of Arts in Educational and Community Renewal 36 hour non-thesis program The Master of Arts in Educational and Community Renewal is a 36-hour professional graduate degree. The degree focuses on successful ways to better meet the needs of children and families through interactive, action-oriented partnerships among businesses, schools, families, universities, community organizations and governmental agencies. The goal is to connect, support, and educate change-makers as they are engaged in the process of educational and community renewal.
This degree is part of a state-wide initiative intended to develop educational and community leaders who will be able to enhance the ability of students to learn, teachers to teach, and schools and communities to work together to foster high achieving schools and communities. We intend to accomplish this by using web-based and other cutting-edge technologies designed to enhance working and learning together within and across schools, communities, and educational systems.

GENERAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
This non-thesis program requires a total of 36 hours of awarded graduate credit for completion. The program will focus equally on the study of schools and communities and how they can work together effectively for their mutual benefit. Consequently, the program will be interdisciplinary in nature, drawing on the expertise of scholars and practitioners in various areas. Disciplines participating include: communication, educational leadership, engineering, human relations, library and information sciences, occupational and environmental health, regional and community planning, and political science.

DELIVERY FORMAT
This program is delivered using the University’s Advanced Programs model of on-site intensive seminars supplemented with instruction mediated through web-based and distance education technologies. On-site seminars will be delivered at locations convenient to students and tailored to meet the lifestyle of working adult learners. The typical schedule for an on-site seminar is 30 hours of instruction conducted during one extended weekend (Thursday and Friday, from 5 p.m.-10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m). A course will be offered every two months resulting in the completion of 6 courses per year for a total of two years. OU's unique compressed format, combined with advanced technology makes this an efficient and effective way for students to obtain a masters degree.

STUDENTS
Potential students include the professionals society looks to for social and political reform - teachers, principals, school boards, parents, government and business leaders, community organizers and planners, and community agencies and social service providers.

PROGRAM OF STUDY – 36 hours   Course Outline
Students will experience a cutting edge, interdisciplinary graduate program involving advanced technology, a “centerpiece renewal project” (i.e. a project in which students research as well as help solve a problem in their local communities and schools), and internships with both local and international components. The program is built around educational and community renewal strategies which are supported by research and research-based literature. Strategies are captured in the core concepts and associated practices of Inquiry, Discourse, Equity, Authenticity, Leadership and Service.

DEGREE COMPLETION
To qualify for a graduate degree, each student must have an overall grade point average of 3.00 (“B” on a 4 point scale) in all graduate work taken at the University of Oklahoma. Students must successfully complete a Centerpiece Renewal Project, internship, and portfolio assessment.
